Roughan & O’Donovan is the leading provider of these services in Ireland and clients include the National Roads Authority (NRA), rail operators, PPP consortia and city and county councils. Our work includes the inspection, condition monitoring, non-destructive testing (NDT) and structural assessment of all bridge types including masonry arch, reinforced and pre-stressed concrete, steel and composite structures. We have specific experience in the assessment of structures that are protected as part of the record of protected structures and the record of monuments and places.

Roughan & O’Donovan has undertaken in excess of 1,600 bridge inspections and structural assessments for the NRA under their EIRSPAN Bridge Management System, which is used to effectively manage the operating requirements of the bridge structures on national primary and secondary routes in Ireland. Roughan & O’Donovan has been engaged to design and manage the construction of the upgrades of a large number of these bridges and have also undertaken several fast-track
replacement projects for bridges damaged by scour and flooding. Increasingly, Roughan & O’Donovan is undertaking assessment of existing structures for PPP consortia to inform maintenance decisions throughout their long term motorway management concessions.
