Dublin City Council has selected Roughan & O'Donovan to lead an integrated, multidisciplinary design team for a new €30m bridge linking the south docklands with Ringsend.

The new bridge will consolidate the development that has taken place in the docklands Strategic Development Zone (SDZ) by giving the riverside sites better road connectivity, particularly in relation to public transport.

It will run from the end of Sir John Rogerson's Quay across the mouth of the River Dodder where it flows into the Liffey, and across to Thorncastle Street in Ringsend.

Christian Smith, project engineer for the scheme, commented:

We are looking forward to working with Dublin City Council on the delivery of this vital public transport connection. It is a strategic piece of infrastructure and will facilitate residential development in the Poolbeg area and its SDZ.

The Council hopes to have the bridge in place by 2020.
