Docklands Rail Station Dublin

New rail station, external plaza area and island platform with canopy over together with ancillary buildings and structures.

Concourse building is steel-framed building on piled foundations. Platform constructed using precast concrete elements.  It was originally intended that the station could be removed in 10 years time and in order to facilitate this requirement, all elements of the structure were designed to be completely demountable with a minimum of demolition work.  The groundworks on the site were minimised by the use of a combination of Rolling Dynamic Compaction for the main platform and precast piles for the station building.  This resulted in a minimum of excavated material removed from the site. Role included site supervision throughout.

In order to meet the tight project programme, ROD-FM worked closely with the precast fabricators, Banagher Concrete, from an early stage of the project. ROD-FM were also responsible for producing fabrication drawings for the complicated curved steelwork that makes up the station roof and for assisting Iarnród Éireann procuring the steelwork in advance of appointing the steelwork Contractor. Iarnród Éireann has since adopted the canopy design as a standard for all new rail stations throughout Ireland.
