The Bridges Group work in the area of visually sensitive structure design draws on our skills in advanced structural design, bridge aesthetics and architecture, geotechnical engineering and hydraulic design.  This allows us to develop a project-specific optimum solution for the client in producing an aesthetically pleasing structure.

Roughan & O’Donovan has received numerous awards in Ireland for excellence in the bridge design including the cable stayed Boyne  and William J Dargan Bridges, the stress ribbon Kilmacanogue Footbridge and the Killarney Road Bridge in Wicklow.

In addition, we have been successful with bridge design competitions, the Monastery Road Gateway Bridge and the International Bridge Competition in Strabane for the provision of two new cable-stayed footbridges across the River Mourne.

Our success in aesthetic bridge design has also led to opportunities in other areas of highly visual structural design in the form of a signature cable-car tower design. Roughan & O’Donovan undertook the preliminary design of the Dublin cable-car scheme and is involved with similar projects in Vienna, New York and Belgrade.
