The project involves the extension of this major dual carriageway from four to six lanes. This section of the N7 is part of the inter-urban network linking Dublin with the Cities of Cork, Limerick and Waterford and carries in excess of 50,000 vehicles per day. This Design and Build project involved the Online widening of 14km of dual carriageway including Traffic Management from 2 to 3 lanes, including four new grade separated junctions, 14km of new local roads, 4 new interchange bridges, 2 footbridges, 13 sign gantries and 15 culverts.
ROD in conjunction with AECOM undertook the design of the full scheme including the design of the traffic management necessary for carrying out the works. In addition, ROD were responsible for the provision of resident site staff to supervise the execution of the works in accordance with the Design and the Works Requirements. Undertaking the design check of the design. ROD undertook the role of Health & Safety Co-ordinator on behalf of the PSDP.
ROD undertook the full engineering design, traffic management design and providing resident site staff to supervise the execution of the works. The project was completed to a strict timetable to ensure opening ahead of the 2006 Ryder Cup golf tournament at the K Club in Kildare. Main access to the club is via the N7.
