This is a single span reinforced concrete bridge carrying the LUAS light rail and public transport across the River Liffey between O’Connell Bridge and Butt Bridge in central Dublin. It is being designed with a low key contemporary expression, elegant in scale, graceful in span, with devices to lighten visual impact and minimal obtrusion over balustrade level.

Roughan & O’Donovan undertook Design Options Study, Preliminary Design Stage Report, Detailed Design and prepared an Environmental Impact Statement. The most significant environmental issues involved were the minimising the potential impact on the quay walls and other protected structures on the river Liffey quays.

Roughan & O'Donovan
worked closely with a conservation architect to develop a design that was sympathetic to its historic surroundings. Method statements were prepared for the removal of both the quay walls and the adjacent Sheahan Memorial. Not a single objection to the scheme was lodged with An Bord Pleanála with the oral hearing lasting just one-and-a-half hours.Architect: Seán Harrington Architects
