Summary

Roughan & O’Donovan (ROD) provided civil engineering design services for this urban renewal project involving a reordering of the carriageway of the main approach route to Dublin city centre from Dublin airport and the north.

Solution

ROD undertook a revision of the existing street layout, reconstruction of footpaths, introduction of a median island with trees and strengthening works at under street basements.

We designed narrower traffic lanes to provide for the new central median, extending bus lanes and providing additional cycle lanes.

We modified traffic turning movements at enhanced signal junctions and specified up-to-date pedestrian and mobility impaired facilities.

Challenge

Responding to infrastructure needs whilst improving the visual and social quality of the streetscape proved challenging.

Services provided:

  • Civil engineering design
  • Road safety engineering
