On Tuesday, March 13th, Roughan & O’Donovan gave a helping hand to transition year student, Jennifer Alken, from Rathdown School for Girls, by hosting her Habitat for Humanity cake sale in the company offices in Sandyford.

The amateur baker whipped up a feast of cream cakes, muffins, jam biscuits and custard tarts for the company’s sweet-toothed engineers, scientists and technologists.

The cake sale is just one of several fundraising initiatives Alken has planned to raise the €1,700 she needs to help the global, non-profit housing organisation build a home for a poor family in Romania.

If she can reach her target, Alken will travel to the rural village of Cumpana in April, where she will work with a team of students mixing and pouring concrete, brick laying, flooring, plastering and painting.

In commenting on the fundraiser, Roughan & O'Donovan's Managing Director, Harry Meighan, said:

Hosting Jennifer's cake sale was a way for us to get more involved in the cause rather than simply writing a cheque.  When she returns from Romania, we look forward to her sharing her experience of the project with our buildings team.
