Roughan & O'Donovan has been appointed by Dublin City Council to progress the 2.5km Clontarf to city centre cycle route project.

The scheme was beset by planning process delays due to opposition from environmental and cycling groups to its impact on historic trees in Dublin's Fairview Park.  However, this obstacle was overcome when Dublin City Council undertook a redesign during the planning process, which allowed the majority of the trees to remain in place.

Roughan & O'Donovan's commission covers the detailed design, tender, construction and handover phases.

Commenting on the project, Eoin Ó Catháin, Associate, Roughan & O'Donovan, said:

Construction will hopefully begin in mid 2018, with the first sections of the scheme reaching completion by mid 2019. However, given the scale and complexity of the project, the full construction programme is likely to extend into 2020.
