On Thursday, 26 March, Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien TD officially opened the first section of the N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramoge Road Project. This section represents 7km of the project’s overall 34km length and includes a bypass of Frenchpark village.

When fully complete, the €450-million scheme will also bypass Bellanagare, Tulsk and Strokestown, improving road safety and journey reliability for all road users on the N5 national primary route.

ROD-AECOM alliance worked closely with Roscommon National Roads Regional Office to bring the road development through the preliminary design and statutory planning phases, as well as the contract procurement phase. Our current responsibilities include providing contract administration, construction monitoring and handover stage services for the construction phase of project.

Minister for Transport, Darragh O’Brien TD said: “For the residents of Frenchpark, [this bypass] is expected to remove up to 70% of through traffic from their village. This will deliver greater safety in the village, as well as reduced noise and improved air quality.”

Roscommon County Council Chief Executive, Shane Tiernan said: “I also acknowledge and thank Roughan & O’Donovan-AECOM Consulting Engineers for their ongoing professional support and dedicated service to Roscommon County Council during both the planning and construction stages of the N5 project.”
