ROD Design Engineer shortlisted for the prestigious Engineers Ireland Chartered Engineer of the Year Award 2026
We are delighted to announce that Design Engineer, Laura Fernandez, is a finalist for the Engineers Ireland Chartered Engineer of the Year Award 2026. The award is one of the most prestigious in Irish engineering and is presented annually to an engineer who has demonstrated integrity, innovation, professionalism and dedication to the engineering profession.
Laura is a chartered structural engineer with 11 years’ experience in the building industry. She began her career in Denmark, working at the University of Copenhagen, and undertook a Master’s in Engineering, with structural engineering as her specialism, at the Technical University of Denmark. The experience Laura gained in Denmark - both as early-career engineer and a master's student - provided her with a deep understanding of the use of digital technologies in building design.
Since joining ROD, Laura has gained experience across a range of sectors, including healthcare, education and community developments. She has successfully led the design of structural engineering projects across all stages, demonstrating an awareness of the complexities involved in delivering integrated building solutions and the importance of collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.
Laura’s structural engineering expertise and specialist knowledge of digital engineering informs her innovative, coordinated and efficient approach to project delivery. Her ability to combine engineering and digital practice has enhanced the quality and efficiency of ROD’s structural design procedures and contributed to the development and implementation of its information management processes and standards.
The winner will be announced at a special event in Clyde Road on Wednesday, 11 November 2026. We wish Laura and her fellow finalists the very best of luck.
