Roughan & O’Donovan (ROD) was delighted to support the Civil Engineering Research in Ireland (CERI) Conference 2026, which took place at Queen's University Belfast on 18th and 19th June. In addition to serving as platinum sponsors of the event, several of our team members contributed technical presentations to the conference proceedings.

As in previous years, the conference provided an excellent platform for collaboration between academia and industry, showcasing cutting-edge research and innovation across the civil engineering sector within Ireland. One of the highlights of the event was the presentation of the Joe O’Donovan Memorial Award to Pat Maher, Director of Network Management for Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII). Pat delivered an insightful keynote address in which he discussed the changing landscape in bridge design and construction in recent decades and touched upon his close, professional relationship with the late Joe O’Donovan, co-founder of ROD.

A second event highlight was the award of 'Best Student Paper in the Bridges Stream' to our colleague, Cian Ó Cathasaigh, in recognition of the excellent research work he undertook as part of his ME in Civil Engineering and Business at University College Dublin.
