On 6 May 2026, ROD-AECOM Alliance signed contracts with Cork County Council to provide consultancy services for the planning, design and environmental assessment of the N25 Midleton to Youghal Transport Project. The appointment offers a welcome opportunity for us to expand our portfolio of major multi-modal transportation projects in Cork, which includes the Cork Area Commuter Rail Programme (with TYPSA); BusConnects Cork (with TYPSA); and the West Cork Greenways scheme (with AECOM).

The N25 Midleton to Youghal Transport Project will support the ongoing economic development of East Cork by enhancing safety and efficiency along the N25 corridor and improving transport links between Cork and Waterford for commuters and businesses. Funded by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), it will bypass the villages of Castlemartyr and Killeagh and upgrade Midleton’s Lakeview roundabout, three serious bottlenecks on the national route between Cork and Waterford.

Cork County Council Chief Executive Moira Murrell said: “The appointment of a highly experienced consultancy team will allow Cork County Council to develop and assess options for this important route, with public consultation planned later this year.”

The Mayor of County Cork Cllr Mary Linehan Foley called the contract signing “a really positive step forward in delivering the kind of infrastructure that will benefit not just Cork, but the country as a whole. It will reduce congestion and improve connectivity throughout the Midleton and Youghal areas, creating a more efficient and reliable transport route.”

ROD Director Eoin Ó Catháin said: “We are delighted to support Cork County Council, Cork National Roads Office, TII and the wider project team in delivering this critical piece of road infrastructure for national and regional connectivity. We look forward to building strong community support for the scheme, particularly given the substantial safety and journey-time benefits it will offer all road users, and the improved quality of life it promises for residents in the towns of Killeagh and Castlemartyr and the wider East Cork region.”

Construction of the Killeagh and Castlemartyr bypasses is due to commence by 2030.
