About the role

As part of the designer’s site representative team, you will supervise the construction of the proposed bus corridor and enhanced walking and cycling infrastructure between Liffey Valley and the city centre. You will be based on site for the duration of the contract.

The works primarily involve:

  • accommodation works
  • construction of retaining walls and other similar structures
  • utilities diversions and installation
  • drainage works
  • traffic signal coordination at junctions and pedestrian crossings
  • road pavement construction and resurfacing
  • cycle track construction, including separator kerbs and cycle track pavement
  • footpath reconstruction and reinstatement

Duties

Your duties will include:

  • assisting the designer’s site representative in the fulfilment of his/her duties
  • monitoring the execution of the works in accordance with the contract requirements
  • carrying out daily site inspections of workmanship, witnessing testing and recording daily site activities
  • raising and agreeing the close-out of non-conformance reports
  • highlighting design issues and liaising with the design team on any design-related matters
  • reviewing and agreeing inspection and test plans with the contractor
  • reviewing testing records for compliance
  • representing the designer at site meetings and managing technical queries

Essential

  • A degree in engineering (Level 8 qualification in the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent)
  • At least five years’ satisfactory postgraduate experience of engineering work, including not less than two years’ experience of civil engineering work and the delivery of road/active travel infrastructural projects in an urban environment, including structures, drainage, utilities, road construction, reinstatement and control of roadworks
  • A high standard of technical training and experience, including administrative experience of contracts, the roles and duties of the respective parties, contractual obligations and timeframes
  • Experience of monitoring the contractor for compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety legislation
  • Good organisational skills
  • A strong work ethic
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Fluency/high level of proficiency in spoken and written English

Desirable

  • Experience working as a resident engineer on infrastructure projects
  • Competency in the use of Microsoft Suite and AutoCAD
  • Competency in reading and understanding plans and specifications
  • Experience in implementing procedures and systems for quality control on site 
  • Experience in preparing clear and concise reports
  • Chartered engineer status (CEng, MIEI or equivalent)
