About the role
As an experienced senior bridge engineer, you will play an integral role in our bridge team and provide input to bridge and multidisciplinary civil engineering projects. You will be supported throughout by senior members of our bridge teams in Ireland and the UK.

- DART+ West, Ireland
- Waterford City Public Infrastructure Project, Ireland
- Narrow Water Bridge Project, Ireland
- George’s Dock Bridge, Ireland
- Herring Bridge, Great Yarmouth, UK
- Renfrew Bridge, Renfrewshire, Scotland
- Whitegates to Athlone Castle Cycleway, Athlone, Ireland
- A6 Dungiven to Drumahoe dualling scheme, Northern Ireland
Main duties and responsibilities
- Work with existing and new bridge and civil structures across a range of materials and forms, superstructure, substructure, foundation and articulation elements
- Participate in early project stages, including scoping, specifying and interpreting surveys, inspection and investigative works, optioneering and scheme design
- Undertake and manage preliminary design and detailed design work, including structural analytical modelling, calculations etc.
- Review drawings
- Prepare documents, including technical reports, specifications and contract documents
- Support the team to deliver projects within agreed timeframes
- Undertake independent design checking and provide construction stage technical support
- Interface with clients from local and national authorities, consultants and design-and-build contractors amongst others
- Support other senior members of the bridge team in preparing bids/tenders
- Supervise bridge design engineers
Essential requirements
- Honours degree in civil or structural engineering (Level 8 in the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent)
- Chartered status with Engineers Ireland, the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) or equivalent
- A minimum of seven years' post-qualification experience in the detailed design of bridges
- Experience of working on detailed bridge design
- Experience of managing teams working on detailed bridge design
- Ability to undertake and manage bridge structure analytical modelling, including construction stage and finite element analysis
- Good knowledge of structural analysis software including finite element analysis software
- Excellent technical knowledge of bridge design
- Excellent understanding of bridge structural detailing
- Flexible, motivated and focused
- A strong work ethic
- Experience of written and in-person interaction with external parties
- Fluent or highly proficient in spoken and written English
Desirable
- Good knowledge of and experience in the use of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and other standards and legislation in the field of bridge/structural design
- Excellent knowledge of Eurocodes in the field of bridge design
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills
- Experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment
- Experience of working to tight deadlines
