About the role

As a senior resident engineer, you will lead the site-based team responsible for the supervision of the construction of the Maynooth Eastern Ring Road project. 

The project involves the construction of approximately 1.45 km of Type 3 Single Carriageway connecting the Leixlip Road (R148 regional road) and the Celbridge Road (R405 regional road), in a north-south direction. The aim of the project is to alleviate traffic within Maynooth. 

The works will primarily involve: 

  • provision of two signalised junction tie-ins
  • two slip roads south of the proposed railway bridge
  • footway and cycleway provision
  • construction of a 41m single-span, prestressed, precast concrete, beam bridge spanning the Dublin–Maynooth railway line and the Royal Canal
  • construction of precast concrete, high containment walls on the approaches and the departure from the bridge
  • construction of stonework-clad, noise barrier walls to the south of the scheme, around the tie-in to the R405
  • construction of a reinforced-concrete towpath along the banks of the Royal Canal, underneath the proposed bridge

Essential

  • Degree in engineering or construction management (Level 8 in the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent)
  • At least 10 years’ postgraduate experience in civil engineering works (preferably piling and bridgeworks), with a minimum of five years’ site-based experience on bridge or civil works 
  • Experience in the role of senior resident engineer (or equivalent) on civil engineering works, including at least one bridge over a rail/road/river with a construction value of more than €10 million (exclusive of VAT)
  • Experience in administering the public works forms of contract
  • Experience of civil engineering projects involving construction works over environmentally sensitive watercourses
  • Experience in the review and monitoring of Environmental Operating Plan(s) for civil engineering projects, including at least one project involving works crossing or directly adjacent to environmentally/ecologically designated sites and sensitive watercourses
  • Experience in implementing procedures and systems for accurate record-keeping
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety legislation
  • Good organisational skills
  • Motivated individual with a strong work ethic
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Fluency/high level of proficiency in spoken and written English

Desirable

  • MS Project experience 
  • Chartered engineer status (CEng MIEI or equivalent)
