Robert joined ROD as a graduate engineer in 2012. He now leads of our Research and Innovation Group, which is focused on delivering digital and data-driven solutions across the transport and civil engineering sectors.
A chartered engineer with over 14 years’ experience, Robert specialises in the development and application of emerging technologies to provide cutting-edge solutions for structural health monitoring, traffic engineering, motorway operations, intelligent transport systems and asset monitoring. His doctorate focused on the use of in-vehicle sensors and machine learning to detect damage in bridges.
Robert is supporting the development of Ireland’s digital motorway operations through the delivery of advanced analytics and business intelligence tools on Transport Infrastructure Ireland’s enhancing Motorway Operation Services (eMOS) Programme. He is actively involved in national and international research initiatives, including EU and CEDR-funded projects, and led the first global industry report on the application of artificial intelligence in the road sector on behalf of PIARC, the World Road Association.
Robert maintains close links with universities, participates in international standardisation activities, and his work is published extensively in leading engineering journals.
